Cambridge: For those that don't know and would be interested, the Second Monday Cambridge pub meet has been rescheduled to today (Friday) what with there having been a Worldcon on Monday.
svtompkins (of TAFF) and
jerrykaufman will be there to experience Cambridge Fandom i.e. conversations about bicycle gearing and mouse vasectomies. Cambridge Blue pub, Gwydir Street, from 7ish.
Also this weekend is Consternation, a small gaming con at New Hall.
Hamster:
hawkida: Do you think you'll get more rodents?
bugshaw: I expect we'll take a break for a while, maybe take the opportunity to decorate the house without giant tanks in the way, then maybe something will move in...
"A while" appears to be slightly under 2 weeks. We have a hamster! Purchased fresh from the pet shop, so she should last a while. They had a very unusual hamster whose fur looked more like a mole's, but we went for a more traditionally hamster-looking hamster. Her fur is grey, so we thought 'Delenn' would be a good name, but 'Starbuck' might be more appropriate! She's a real Amazonian bruiser of a hamster. I think she's stronger than I am. We were lucky that the cardboard box they gave us to transport her in lasted the journey home; there were some terrifying cardboard-shredding noises coming from inside and every so often a pair of huge teeth poked out. Now she's in the 2-foot glass tank, she's already made bite marks in the tank sealant, pulled her wheel off the wall (where it was stuck with a suction cap), hefted it up in her tiny hamster paws and given it a good chewing.
I'm a bit worried. Perhaps I should put her tank inside the 3-foot tank. And put that inside an iron-bar reinforced hamster stronghold.
