After work, I went to the Grafton Centre for the Heffers SF&F evening. The shop was wonderful - they had cleared some of the tables of the usual book displays, and instead piled them high with SF&F, SF&F all over the shop (literally!). I bought some books:
Keeping It Real, Justina Robson
The Outlaw Varjak Paw, SF Said (whom I fear I rather perturbed by wittering about hamsters)
Do the Creepy Thing, Graham Joyce (who was not at the event, but there was a 3 for 2 sticker on the book)
Untold Stories, Alan Bennett (to make the 3rd of the 3 for 2 offer). I thought
major_clanger might like it, but it is a bit thick to post.
Met up with a number of the usual suspects, plus
desperance; chatted about how nice it was to go round a bookshop of an evening where they serve wine, even though I was drinking water; admired production values of Susanna Clarke's The Ladies of Grace Adieu; poked fun at debate about the merits of North Royston's one way system; nearly coerced
despotliz into going to a cash point to get money with which to buy membership of Recombination (hint, hint); then got hungry and left before I gnawed somebody's leg off. The Carlton seemed a very long way away, in the wrong direction, but I stopped at Kymmoy noodle for dinner as I thought it unlikely I'd get round to cooking something proper. And managed to order something which was entirely meat and plain rice, with only half a lettuce leaf shredded very thin for vegetation. I should look at the menu more carefully next time...
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
And then comes Friday, a day of nothing actually scheduled but plenty to do, most (alas) involving sitting in front of a computer. For a change, I can go into the University library to spend a day literature searching, and swing by its DVD library on the way out. Much cheaper than Blockbusters! I'd hoped for a lie in, but I have to leave the house before breakfast because I've run out of breakfast. :-(
