Went to bed with major plans to do lots today.
Woke at 11:24. Um...

My god, that's a grey sky bellowing in from the West. From my study window I look out onto the back of the mews house opposite, its slate (or slate-coloured) roof nearly matches the sky. Beyond the 2- and 3-storey houses they have recently built a 5-storey block of flats. This is mostly in yellow-brown brick, to match the rest of the estate, but the top storey is faced in white wood. Usually this serves to diminish its impact against the sky, and make it feel less looming. For a brief moment, as I started typing this, it was the only point of brightness between the grey sky and the grey roofs while the sun still fell on it. Then the cloud spread further, and the white is just another shade of grey.

And now the rains have begun.

It's quite eerie: the ambient light dropped noticeably over a few seconds, like nothing so much as when I saw an eclipse.

And on Fridays I can go and do lots of cultural things, go to art galleries, etc, open my eyes to the wider world...

So I went to the theatre for Faust - the panto, which contained such delights as a pantomime Cerberus! And lots of really, really bad jokes.
