Ow, ow, ow! My head, and throat, and sinuses. How have I managed to catch a cold, in July?

It was a fine day for a walk, scattered sun, scattered shade, and a gentle plod along the river was not too much for my cold-ridden throat to cope with. I met [livejournal.com profile] aardvark179, [livejournal.com profile] lnr, Mike and a surprise [livejournal.com profile] fivemack at the Green Dragon footbridge and we set off along the fairly busy river path. The water was unusually clear, and we could see tiny fishes, but the star of the trip was a heron who posed for us on the way out and back, then flew low over our heads. There was a raptor of some kind too, hovering over a field, but we couldn't identify it.

The food at The Bridge was very good - we had antipasti to share, with warm bread and a bowl of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I had trout stuffed with asparagus and wrapped in parma ham, and very nice it was too. Half a glass of wine and no pudding later, and we set off on the return trip, crossing the river at Baits Bite lock and taking a quieter path through Fen Ditton and a field strewn with pages torn from a philosophy textbook. Someone's finished their finals, eh.

3h30min walking altogether, my legs feel it...
