The Prestige

We did The Prestige (film) for Book Club, hence the rewatch of it and the reread of the book and The Magic, Priest's account of not being hugely involved in the film production. I still find it rewards revisiting.

There was not a lot appealing at the cinema; other than my third viewing of Iron Man 2 the rest were DVD/tv.

Which is a pretty posh way of saying "Sponsored Walk". [livejournal.com profile] sphyg and I did it - 5km in 53 minutes on a fairly crowded route. Not too knackering, but the bottle of water at the finish line was much appreciated. The endurance test aspect of it came at the beginning, an hour standing around on an increasingly crowded Parker's Piece as 8,000 people arrived, mostly dressed in pink; the DJ had an uncanny ability to talk non-stop for an hour, and get us properly motivated and aligned with the charity's objectives. I'm sorry, it was all meant to be fun, but I worked in marketing for too long and recognise carefully orchestrated brand loyalty building when I see it! It's aimed at women of a certain age, lots of eighties cheese, but once we started moving it was quite fun and touching to see so many groups walking in memory of loved ones. The runners went first, then the joggers, and by the time we reached the starting line 26 minutes had already elapsed.

Thank you for your support, the event raised over half a million pounds :-)
