101 Things in 101 Days update.
14 days to go until Day 101, which puts me on Day 87 already.
The summer has flown by, with some unexpected good things and unexpected less good things happening. Quotidian tasks spiral in complexity as the act of completing one creates several follow-up actions in its place; I admit I've not had the atmosphere of quiet focus that I had anticipated, but hope I will find that place in September.
That said, I have been busy and done a lot of things, some of which I'm pleased with.
Completed
1. Bend a spoon. Yep. Hah! I had this planned all along, and you thought I had a Uri Geller thing in mind :-)
4. See Hockneys at Royal Academy (Jun 15). Albeit some two months later than first planned. His 50-panel tree painting was an impressive piece, but other work will stick in my mind more. A fascinating trip to see a huge number of diverse pieces of contemporary art.
7. Start TAFF race. Yes. Now go and vote, if you're eligible!
10. Help run a Unicon (www.recombination.org.uk). All over bar the mental scarring...
12. Go to Cambridge Folk Festival (Jul 27-29). Yes, but just for a day. I talked myself into having some other Terribly Important things to do that weekend, but I cannot now remember what they were.
20. Go to Tate Modern. Um, let's make thatTate Modern Hayward Gallery, because I went there.
23. Update Unicon web page (www.unicon.org.uk). Done. And now needs to be done again :-) Happily this has been passed to someone else for now. [Must pass on details of domain administration]
34. Update bank accounts
35. Check savings accounts
36. Do tax return 2006-7 EARLY. Oh, it has been no end of fun in the House of Bridget this summer. Money, money, money. I know how to have a good time! [bah.]
40. Have a barbeque or party. Yes. Haven't cleared up yet and will be eating leftovers for the next two weeks ;-)
41. Have friends round for board-gaming. Yes. Imminent tenants, actually, who thrashed us at Munchkin. Would like to do gaming again before we leave.
49. Assess lace-making. Yes. Cleared off the old project, and made three quick pieces for paperweights. Am looking forward to playing about with making things in the long winter evenings (in the poor light. Hmmm, possibly a flaw in my plan). Colours, threads, knots, bobbins - I like these things.
71. Talk about stuff with Simon. Yes. But I had expected a rather different outcome when I initially wrote this list.
82. Have friends to dinner three times.
91. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #4: Um, separate.
93. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #6: Three pieces of lace.
94. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #7: Walk round lots of green parts of Cambridge. Castle Mound, Stourbridge Common, Coe Fen. Not done The Backs yet this summer.
95. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #8: Clear out 5 feet of unwanted books.
96. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #9: Deal with convention aftermath.
97. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #10: All the ironing. For a few blissful moments, all the clothes except the ones on our backs were clean and dry and flat.
98. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #11: Chase a very old COA. (so they could send me some cheques. One of which bounced and needs to be re-chased. Grr.)
99. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #12: Report a stolen bicycle. [Now need to follow up, look at insurance etc]
100. Thing which will undoubtedly crop up and need doing #13: Test the courage of my convictions. Twice.
In Progress
18. Eat505 70 portions of fruit and vegetables. Five a day has usually been easy.
22. Read14 6 books. Read The Fallen Moon, Ian Watson and Blindsight, Peter Watts since last update. Currently reading Vellum, Hal Duncan. Six books in 14 days would be possible if I weren't doing anything else...
24. Walk for101 14 hours. I lost count, but think I am on course. Some days I'm stuck to the computer, but others I walk 2-3 hours. Walking every day was the real objective here.
25. Do APAzines for Turbo and TWP. Managed minac for Turbo in August. It would be prudent (yet disappointing) to leave TWP for the next year.
69. Watch Angel season 5. Episodes 1-4. Spikey goodness! Followed by Spikey irritation. He would be a much more interesting and dangerous character if he did not so meekly follow what the writers wanted him to do each episode. "What am I this week - evil? Trying to be good? Double-crossing? Triple-crossing?" He doesn't show much conflict over these apparent character-changing decisions.
77. Lose 14 lb (start 15:02). [Lost 10 lb.] Surprise success of the summer! Bodies are most peculiar though, and my shape and weight seem only loosely correlated.
80. Cycle for14 8 hours. It was going okay, I cycled over new terrain such as traffic and cattle grids, but then the bike got stolen. Meh. I might get another - Caro says one has been abandoned behind their house and it might fit me... It might be better to stick to walking in Edinburgh, because of the hills, but it is awfully much slower than cycling and I won't be able to get as far.
81. Eat atthree one restaurant in Cambridge I’ve not been to before [Rainbow Cafe, Jinling Noodle]. Might get one more in by Day 101.
