[livejournal.com profile] major_clanger may recall a moment, some months ago, when we were looking for the ice cream scoop. "I'm sure we had one," he said, but we couldn't find it anywhere. I have now found it.

Yesterday I had people round for dinner and boardgaming (apologies for the watery couscous, it does not normally turn out like that), so today there was enough crockery to load up the dishwasher. I added today's supper dish, and set it running, while I put some porridge in the microwave.

Two minutes later, my normally well-behaved porridge had chosen to play at being a volcano, and there were alarming sounds of splashing water coming from under the dishwasher. Juggle porridge, lie on stomach on kitchen floor peering suspiciously under dishwasher, find no signs of water (yet), find screwdriver, undo footer board and check underneath the cupboards for water (we've had trouble in the past). No water - phew! The far cupboard is actually a set of drawers, and it seems that items have taken to sneaking out of the back of the drawers and down the back of the cabinet, to come to a heap in the bottom - where I found a number of paper bags, a pack of batteries, a hose grip, and the ice-cream scoop. I don't think we would have found it that day if we'd looked harder...

Oh, I think the couscous was still perfectly edible. As one who always very carefully measures the water, I was quite surprised at the way you sloshed the water in, but it's obviously a lot more forgiving than I thought. If that was how it goes when it goes wrong, then I obviously don't need to worry any more.

When I make couscous it usually tastes of something though...

Even though I'd stated my entrance into "dervish mode" and shouldn't be distracted? Normally I would measure it but decided not to take the time or rearrange the people in the kitchen to gain access to the measuring jug or do the mental arithmetic ;-)
