Hamster Terror

That's it - I'm changing her name to Hamzilla. Or Mecha-Hamzilla.

She is too terrifying - she eats metal, she climbs glass, and she believes she can fit a 2"-diameter log in her mouth (she can't).

And I am so not going to be able to find a hamster-sitter ever again now I've posted this.

Why are my thoughts drawn inexorably to the cartoon that forms the last two pages of The Brand New Monty Python Bok?

I don't have that book, so I can't look up the cartoon :-(

The only images I could find with a fairly cursory Google were illegible, so I've just photographed the three relevant pages in a spirit of gratuitous copyright violation. They're not hugely wonderful, but they should be readable; I'd have been better off firing up the scanner, but it's plugged into [livejournal.com profile] ramtops' computer and the camera felt less hassle.

Wonderful! I laughed like a drain for the first two pages. I can see just where they're coming from. Thank you!

As long as she hasn't figured out how to get out of her cage, we would take care of her. It would be fairly suicidal for her to get out of her cage here, though.

Have you had her checked for vitamin or mineral deficiencies? When children do things like eat strange things they call it 'pika'.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know about that!

I hope she's okay; she has a fairly good diet and has multivitamins in her water. She is chewing through metal rather than "eating" it, and I think that's just because she doesn't have a chainsaw to cut through the roof with. :-)

As long as she's not chewing on you or other humans - its probably OK. Maybe one of those Doggie-chew toys?

My Bertie hamster is provided with lots of good wooden toys to chew on. They do need to chew to keep their teeth down. To be fair to him, he does chew on his house, but he prefers metal. I recently upgraded his rather crappy cage to an aquarium, and as there's no bars to chew on but he's discovered the roof.

The Hamster Formerly Known As Heidi has always lived in an aquarium; the metal-chewing is when she can read the roof. I came in one day to find she'd managed to thin the metal enough to pierce it with her teeth, and there was a terrifying 2" long sliver of perforated steel pointing down from the roof. I'm astonished she hasdn't impaled herself...

The gerbils lived in a cage with bars, and used to get little bald patches on their noses from too much sticking them through the bars to nibble.

Hey, psychotic hamsters would be right at home in this house :)

Like the shades. Reservoir Hamsters, anyone?

Please forgive me for a link to one of my fanfics that it VERY relevant:

Hiding Place - Buffy / Stephanie Plum crossover

Now I'm scared...

I wonder if I could get away with that at the pet shop - "Can I have a different hamster? This one's possessed."

I like your fanfics.
