In other news: Going to be in London on 6 March? Fancy buying huge quantities of TV costumes including Dr Who and The Prisoner? [livejournal.com profile] bovil points out The Angels Star Collection of Film & TV Costumes auction of 362 lots. With photographs. And detailed listings. And viewings.

What an amazing auction. I lost track of the number of items I fancied.

I have unfortunately had to tell [livejournal.com profile] rotwang that I just can't afford to buy him Obi-Wan Kenobi's cloak to display in the corner of his office ;)

Now, if we had space in the office, I could buy a cloak. But I'd have to build an extension or move to a larger house or something.

Space is also an issue -- having something that large on display means less room for bookshelves, of course ;)

Hmmm. [livejournal.com profile] major_clanger is up in the loft as we speak, making drilling noises (presumably with a drill rather than just for fun) and putting boards down. Boxes --> loft! :-)

I'd rather use extra space for a pinball machine, though.

If you do buy then check the provenance, especially that Prisoner jacket. I think some of the things being auctioned are fancy dress costume copies rather than original "as used on set" pieces.

Ooh! If I sold the house, I could bid for everything I fancy. I'm sure Jeremy Brett's cloak would keep me warm enough. Teamed with the Tom Baker "victorian" coat (I loved that one when Baker was the Doctor). And... and...

[Actually, I'm faintly disturbed by how attractive I find the various more-or-less Nazi-inspired military uniforms.]

They're being careful not to attribute that Prisoner jacket to McGoohan in fact, so I think you can assume it wasn't worn on set -- and hence the price isn't 'stupidly low'.

The black hat, lot 233, still looks incredibly cheap to me -- scarcely more than a hat like that would cost, and imagine going to a wedding and having people say, you know, that hat looks like the one that... In fact, all the 4 weddings costumes look underestimated.

I really rather fancy lot 338 too; though I observe that although the facing is marked as sheepskin, it doesn't say leather anywhere.

And the fibreglass grail helmets look like a bargain, too; much more fun and practical than the metal one.

Fortunately, I'm not buying any clothes until at least May. Of course, this means that I am looking pretty silly in a lot of my clothes for awhile.

I think they've been cautious on quite a lot of the items - 500 quid for the outfit worn by Richard Burton in Cleopatra *and* Sid James in Carry on Cleo will be smashed, and I think they've underestimated how rabid Highlander fans can be.
What I'd really like is the sizes on some of the stuff - I'm sure I could wear Helena Bonham Carter's castoffs (maybe even Catherine Zeta Jones from before she moved to Hollywood and became a stickinsect) - and some of the period drama stuff is estimated at good prices for that sort of stuff (or even vintage from some of the more pretentious shops. 150 quid for Robert Downey's tailcoat from Chaplin?

If I were Charlotte Coleman-sized I would be desperately faunching for Lot 236, the "fuck!" dress from Four Weddings :-(
