Well, not so much "experiment" as "astonishing lack of self-control".

1 slice of Edam just leapt out of the packet into my mouth. Boy, did it taste weird.

I trust you are taking some sort of calcium supplements. Osteoporosis is nothing to mess around with. This occurred to me the other day, but I just got around to mentioning it. Cheese is one of my downfall foods, so I can sympathise with it just jumping into your mouth like that.

Oh yes, I've been taking calcium since I stopped eating dairy, and use calcium-enriched soy milk. My grandma had trouble with osteoporosis, and I don't fancy going the same way. I shall also be doing 2 hours of weight-bearing exercise today i.e. walking :-)

My younger sister has osteoporosis, as does another friend of mine, which is why such things occur to me from time to time.

Edam is not cheese. It is rubber masquerading as cheese. Of course it tasted weird.

Well, a proper Edam is a cheese. You're only 99% right, since only 99% of the stuff on sale here is the rubber type.
