This is what happened when a removals lorry drove over a manhole cover at the back of our house.

I see you hide the manhole under carpet to trap the unwary/unwelcome.... I do like the beetles.

It's actually part of the lorry. They didn't want to move away until we'd found some way to make it safe/prevent people/cars falling in. It's over a metre deep, and there is little lighting there at night.
