If you, like me, set your alarm to wake you especially early so that you can do xyz thing before work, but find you then snooze on, forgetting what on earth it was that you were planning to do, then remember ten minutes before you leave when it's too late and kick yourself, here is a suggestion that I for one will try:
Write xyz thing on a Post-It note and stick it on your alarm clock.

My Thursday night/Friday morning one is
Thursday night, get home totally worn out and quite late and remember the dustmen come early in the morning ... but just want to use the loo/collapse into bed/in front of tv/in front of computer so set alarm for 6:45am to put out rubbish.
6:45am, decide I need a few minutes more sleep
7:10am hear the dustcart go by (from a nice warm snuggly spot in bed)
8:00am think, damn time to get up and I haven't put the rubbish out!

"remember to bring in the minidisc recorder for your workmate" or
"GYM KIT!" or
"you're heading straight from work to the birthday party, take the card and present with you!"
