Are you building the Theremin from a kit? I got the "theremax" theremin kit, because I didn't trust myself at RF design: it was very clear, and worked first time.

Yes, it's an Australian kit, with a reprint article from a hobby electronics magazine plus the kit company's suggestions for improvements. I've got the resistors, capacitors and diodes in, I need to do a few more components but it's the "then test it thoroughly before inserting the chips" instruction that worries me.

But I have to finish it soon, as I'm borrowing [livejournal.com profile] groliffe's soldering iron and he'd probably like it back.
