Edinburgh

So, what's it like to cycle in? A typical journey would be between Bruntsfield and the University.

If it's worth us bringing our bikes, we've been looking at getting one of those things to attach a bike to the back of a car, but they're around £135. I don't suppose anyone in Edinburgh has one we could borrow in August, we're doing two trips up so we could take it down on one trip and back (with bikes) on the second? Fit on the back of a PT cruiser.

That area's pretty good, and is covered in bike paths. There are bike maps published by Spokes - a campaign to promote cycling in the Lothians. The main downside would be the hills.

I've not had much practice with hills down in Cambridge :-)

There's a gentle incline down Bruntsfield links and a slight rise from the Meadows through George Square. Nothing that counts as a hill.

It's about a fifteen or twenty minute walk, so on a bike it should take less than ten. Less than five if you cane it.

it's a doddle in. Deceptively up a hill back. Cycle path cross Links and Meadows.

Thanks! I shall point Simon at this...
