A pet camel? What a great idea!

Or maybe not. From the BBC news -

Pet camel kills Australian woman.

It knocked her to the ground, lay on top of her and displayed what the police delicately described as possible mating behaviour.

Thought this one sounded dodgy and it was -- no-one witnessed the attack, she was found trampled and covered with camel hair in the camel's pen. Theories about what happened include the much less exciting theory that she had a heart attack (she was 60) and the camel came to investigate her while she was incapacitated.

It pleases me that there are feral camels in Australia. And it does sound like they're better off feral than domesticated...

IIRC, it's the only significant healthy population of feral camels on the planet, having been imported before some virus got into the population this group descended from.
