Things I Am Doing This Evening

Gluing the sprockets back on my boots
Failing to pluck up the courage to dye my hair
Watching Batman (60s tv series, episode starring Liberace) and marvelling at how awful it is

--

Plucking my new shoes
Wearing my eyebrows round the house to break them in

Do not get these activities mixed up, otherwise you will fail to pluck up the courage to watch an episode of Batman featuring Liberace, dye the your boots and marvel at how awful they are, and glue sprockets into your hair..

Y'know, that sounds like a damn fine evening's entertainment :-)

What color are you failing to dye your hair?

Nothing exciting, I was just thinking to make the distinguished white bits blend in a bit better.

When I was little, I saw one episode of batman, the first half, before I knew it was supposed to be ridiculous. It ended with him trapped in an elevator with a panther! I was scared (ish)! Only years later did we start to watch it in humour, and eventually I saw the second half of that (he had panther-repelling pills in his utility belt).

My favourite moment ever is when there's a shot of a grass lawn, and a tripwire six-inces off the grass, tied at one end to a short stick with a sign on saying "trip wire". The camera lingers for a second, just long enough to think "no-one could possibly..." and then it cuts to Robin, creeping cautiously away from the house, looking back, and stepping oh so carefully, swinging his feet round so he keeps looking in all directions apart from directly behind him in the direction he's going :)

PS. And I owe you Farthing back, before it gets scuffed. Did I mention it was great? Thank you. Shall I bring it the Carlton one Thursday?

Glad you enjoyed it :-) Bring it to the Carlton on Apr 24, maybe?

OK! (I won't promise to be there unless you want it urgently, but I probably will be, and will do my level best to remember :))

How did you get on with Cryptonomicon?

How does one do THAT?

I too would be interested in your take on Cryptonomicon - will withhold my comments until you've gotten further along with it.

I've not started it yet I'm afraid, do you want it back? Do lend Farthing to R if she'd like it.

Don't worry -- if you'd still like to, please keep it.

Do lend Farthing to R if she'd like it.

Thank you very much. I think she'll get it from elsewhere (I'm intending to buy it) but if you don't mind it going to Sweden I could do.

Happy to have Farthing go to Sweden. And I've seen Cryptonomicon on N's shelves right here in this very house, so I can give yours back next Thursday :-)

LOL. That's convenient, I'm glad. Thanks. (I hope you do read it, I think you'd be interesting, but don't feel obliged to plow into it, the first parts are hard to get into.)
