Note (mainly to Self) re: January

Back from New Zealand - had a brilliant time! Then a weekend board gaming at Stabcon, where broken sleep patterns did not appear to be a disadvantage. Lost dismally at most games, however!

Back home (in the dark! It's so dark even at 07:30!) I'm having my "Gosh - 2005 already" moment. I understood, as I came fresh to the house, why people think we've not long moved in. The "clean, tidy" areas look bare and unfinished. The "diverse and exciting clutter" of my pile of projects looks like I've just not unpacked yet. It is now much more clear to me what needs to be done to feather our nest more appealingly.

There is, of course, Stuff everywhere that needs to be sorted; a million Things To Do surround and overwhelm me. I can't confidently identify the highest priorities, but I am sure that my tax return should be among them somewhere. I started last year to convert to David Allen's Getting Things Done system but never implemented an input management strategy. Thus my carefully organised lists of projects/pending/next actions are now merely the lowest stratum of my tottering heaps of stuff. Must sort it out! Might indulge myself in doing a few Things before I start organising them though... such as my tax return...

Job interview on Wednesday (Learning Support Assistant for disabled students at the Anglian Polytechnic University, 20h/week term time only). The prospect of losing my spare time is doing wonders to focus my mind on tidying up.

You know the joke about the man who bought Charles Atlas's book, but couldn't tear the package open? I've been bookmarking recommendations for Allen's book by people you and [livejournal.com profile] bohemiancoast for months now, but I still haven't got around to actually ordering it. Help!

Getting Things Done

This has disappeared under my bed. Whoops. I have read the start of it but that was in work and I'm tired of people openly mocking my reading it. I just don't have the impetus to read it at home.

Possibly I need to find somewhere else to read.

On a more positive note I have implemented some of the ideas plus things from my time management course. Although it might not look like it I have been getting a lot more done in the past few months. Pity it's mostly sewing...

Oooh. Good luck with the job. My favourite part time job ever was as a sighted assistant to the blind - I found it ideally suited to my temperament, I got to read and learn about loads of stuff plus it was nice and social.

if you use Outlook there's a GTD add-on that gives you all the tools the scheme suggests; you can make features yourself but you get a toolbar to pick delegate/defer/action/someday/snooze/file/delete and nifty background happenings. I installed it but haven't actually done anything with it ;-)
