We practiced the emergency stop today. The first time I stopped with a jolt and knocked the windscreen wipers on (but didn't stall!). Instructor laughed, I joked that this was a precautionary measure in case an aforementioned deer or small child had been hit and sprayed gore on the windscreen. Her little pigtails, back and forth, back and forth - no, let's not go there. We went over the procedure again and had another go. I stopped with much more control, and managed to get both front and rear wipers on. I do seem to have a 'DANGER!' reaction that involves leaping out and grabbing with my right hand. Whether this is my brain leaping for the computer mouse to stop some download, or if it's the new bicycle brake reaction, I'm not sure. But I should probably try to curb it for the test :-)
