I'd rather cut my right hand off

£2.10 on the bus to collect a fishtank with a crack in the corner so no good for fish but "perfect for hamsters/gerbils"
It's not one crack, it's two; and they're not cracks, they're holes big enough for a hamster to walk through sideways. "I'd have to patch them," I say, but I'm not convinced it'd work well. Still, I've ordered a cab and it's just arrived so I pick up the tank and slice my hand open in two places on the fucking jagged broken glass on the bottom edge. There is impressive amounts of blood, which drips and spreads over my hand. They fetch kitchen roll to soak up the blood. FAIL - UR TANK DO NOT WANT - GOING HOME NOW - MOAR KITTCHIN ROLL PLZ THIS ONE'Z WET KTHXBYE.

£8.40 on the cab to the Co-op, where I buy plasters and TCP. The thumb cut has stopped bleeding, I cleaned it up and put a plaster on (quite hard with one hand). The index finger cut is deeper but with good clean edges, and still bleeds if provoked. So I shall spend an enjoyable afternoon with my hand elevated, not using my right fingers where possible. It's a pity that I spent the hour before the excursion unpacking books and putting them in the handy intermediate place of All Over My Bed. Gah.

Rollmops. (To return to an earlier post about use of foodstuffs instead of bodyparts as swear words.)

I'm supposed to go and collect some fresh bay leaves later. I wonder what they'll do to me? At least, this being Britain, I'm unlikely to accidentally be given poison ivy.

We are serious Freecyclers. You should report misrepresentation to the site coordinator. Cracked, and obviously broken, are two entirely different descriptions. Hope you're better soon.

If you'd never tried to keep hamsters in a fishtank, you might think the holes were too high for the hamsters to reach. You'd be wrong. And they were surprised at the jagged underneath bits, I think they'd only carried it by its wobbly top edges. So a charitable interpretation is that they hoped it would be okay. But £10 and two scars - mutter, mutter.

Salmagundi!

(The rollmop, of course, is a food of the gods.)

We trimmed a twenty-foot bay tree down to about twelve, in the summer. I wish we'd thought of Freecycle, as a means of distribution...

I have a fishtank in the cellar that used to be home to 3 gerbils. It wasn't broken last time I looked and it even has a gerbil (and cat) proof mesh cover.
We might want it back one day, if either of the monkey boys decides he wants a pet enough to do the looking after part himself. I do not think such a day is imminent. Until then, you're welcome to have it on loan.

Ooh, that'd be great! And I'd be happy to give it back whenever you want. I have nothing against buying new things, it just seems a shame when there are so many sitting unused in people's houses waiting for a good home. I gave my old one away to a chap for Science Experiments :-) Maybe think about getting it on Wednesday?

Finger has perked up a bit now, which is a relief.

I'll check with the monkey boys, since the thing is technically theirs. But I reckon we have a deal.

They say you can have it on condition they can come and poke its new occupants occasionally.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly :-) and thanks!

Good grief. cannot believe someone would try and palm that off on someone else..

Ouch. I hope the fishtank owners were appropriately apologetic.

Ouch! It does sound like you encountered some pretty inaccurate description there.

[identity profile] major-clanger.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ow! All rather crap but I'm glad to see you've found another source.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Now all I need is a source of hamsters :-)

Well, you get a mummy hamster and a daddy hamster and then.....

Sorry to hear of your mishap. I hope the fish tank owners paid for you cab!

Oh goodness. Now it's my turn to sympathise at your injury!

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think my injury's only worth 5% of the sympathy yours is worth. But I have added righteous indignation because of poor description rather than it being my own idiotic fault! Hope you're still recovering...

URCK!

Oh dear! Much sympathy.
