Things I Have Found In Books

I've found about 20 ad hoc bookmarks while sorting, including:
* a $5000000 bill, of Hell money, which one is supposed to burn while thinking of one's deceased relatives and they will then become rich in the afterlife.
* a Wham! postcard with an entry to a Live & Kicking competition back when a first class stamp was 25p.
* an invitation to [livejournal.com profile] worldofagwu's 31st birthday do.
* and, as is traditional, any number of post-it notes, bus and train tickets.

I have lots of perfectly good bookmarks, many sent free with books, and even labelled "bookmark". And yet somehow the thing that's to hand is a used train ticket, a Sainsbury's receipt or an old postcard.

I could never get the hang of bookmarks. PS that photo looks nothing like you.

I mostly reserve this icon for making Poe-faced comments (oh, ho ho). I would use the Pot-Kettle idiom, but kettles are now cheap white pieces of plastic masquerading as cutting edge design objets, while pots are often still black but with cool glass lids.

I've now found one of my grandpa's bookmarks in one of his old books - it's a list of handy atomic properties :-) Avogadro's number, the mass of a proton, that sort of thing.
