Thursday was good too, with a documentary about early female astronauts with beautiful photography of clouds, tea and home-made cake with [livejournal.com profile] hilaritas, dinner and talking to friends at Geek Pub, then back to the cinema for a time travel film that was actually quite satisfying. They usually annoy me.

Today I had a nice hour's walk in the sunshine to the hairdresser; thinking about tomorrow's pancake party I realised I could make a duck and hoisin sauce filling. A Sharpie-decorated room posted by [livejournal.com profile] marypcb clicked in my mind with my ideas for the downstairs bathroom, and I think I'm now in a position to actually do something with it! I might need help from someone to climb around the bathroom with string and pencils at some point. And I'm going to need a lot of Sharpies.

Skirting Tesco and Sainsbury's, I bought a lot of staples for pancake-making from the Co-op, and now I'm going to enjoy walking along Mill Road and buying things from Bacchanalia, Northrop's, Arjuna and Al-Amin.

That room is amazing!

Think the strength is the design and that it is all line work rather than solid blocks of colour - I can imaging stuff like this working really well too!

As line drawings - not with the background.

Hmmm - I've got a studio to decorate at some point...

Oh yes, that is good.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Escher's Symmetry drawings, start with a grid and a few tesselating creatures, stretch out the grid so its blocks are more irregular, maybe leave a few pens in the bathroom and see what happens :-)

Ooo - I like that idea :) Be careful of visitors disappearing for hours...

Luckily we have another three bathrooms...

My blue sky goal could be to enter the room in Cambridge Open Studios next year :-)

Sounds like fun. Should we bring anything tomorrow?

No, it's fine. Maybe a little beverage or crisps if you have such to hand? I'll get some beer from Bacchanalia but not huge amounts as I can't use leftovers.

Yes, it is your downstairs bathroom now and you can do what you like with it! :-)

I seem to recall that Rymans were selling Sharpies at a discount the last time I was in there.

That moving image is a great accompaniment to the article too. It's slow enough not to distract you from reading the text, unlike the obnoxious adverts that try to drill though your carefully-cultivated ad-blindness. But, eventually, you see everything: a lot more pixels than you normally get outside the medium of a glossy magazine.

When I read, my brain often supplies helpful words which are not exactly the ones on the page (this happens more often when reading on-line, for some reason). So instead of "bathrooms" I saw "ballrooms". Huh, I thought, Bug has not just one ballroom, but multiple ones? Just how big *is* this house of hers?

She'd need a lot more than $10 worth of Sharpies, too.

The Sharpie room is the best thing I have ever seen.

That's a cool room! If only I could draw...

And it's good to see we have the same favourite shops, though fruit, veg, cheese and bread from the market are also high on my list. And Limoncello.

Sadly, I'm working until 4pm at least, and then I really must spend some time with my children before they forget what I look like.

Thanks for the invitation - hopefully another time...

The Works near the Grafton Centre was selling off a whole load of Sharpies last time I went in.

I'm still at the stage of being slightly fretful about the lawn-mowing that needs to be done, and the beverages to be purchased. And if I'm making pancakes, a frying pan might be useful :-)
