If it's dark, and the street is poorly lit, it's foggy and you're wearing dark clothing, the driver will find it hard to see you wave. But flip open your mobile phone so the screen lights up, hold that out as you flag the bus down, and they'll spot you a treat. Apparently it's what all the cool kids are doing these days.

That's a clever idea. Here in Estonia we are legally required to sport 'helkurid' (sparkly light reflectors) I got stopped and given a talking to Saturday because I hadn't gotten around to sewing this year's crop onto my jacket yet.

Really? All year/day 'round, or just on winter nights? (Because that would be really annoying on a warm, jacket-not-needed, summer evening!)

I think that this probably contradicts our cops' advice to keep mobiles hidden inside zipped inside pockets At All Times!
