I've finished only my second book of the year - The Gold Bug Variations by Richard Powers. Anyone else read it? What did you think? Spoilers in comments.

Next I think is Pratchett's Nation, then Self-Made Man for book club.

I loved the beginning, such rich language and so many allusions to codes and ciphers and genetic codes and information science and music and and. I bogged down a bit in the middle, but the end redeemed itself. If I could get through it for a second read, I'd pay more attention to the structure of the chapters and how they match the Variations in theme as well as number. I noticed the different style of parts of the chapters, Jan's in particular, but I hadn't twigged what might be happening in terms of narrators until the end.

Not read it - but I just wanted to suggest reading 'Gullstruck Island' by Frances Hardinge. It's a teen fantasy, and is really very good.
