Oops

Lifted up gerbil wheel this morning, as usual, but found somewhat dishevelled gerbil trapped underneath.
They've knocked it over again already, with a different gerbil underneath, and they don't seem able to escape.

I shall remove the wheel for a while (or perhaps fit it with a panic button)

I'd like to 'see' a gerbil panic button.

I thought gerbil wheels were screwed to the side of the cage, like so:

so they can't fall off or over?

They live in a big glass tank so have a freestanding wheel. But - I could get a mouse ladder or some similar nibble-safe wire to hang over the side, and attach the wheel to that!

Could you glue the base of the wheel-stand to a brick or bit of paving slab, thick enough to sit on the base of the tank?

I have used a wire coathanger to hook the wheel over the edge of the tank. It looked okay, but bounces alarmingly when gerbils run in it. It's sort of like Alton Towers...
