Books Read August

Books read (48-52)

Cycler, Lauren McLaughlin (2008)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson (2005)
Ripley's Game, Patricia Highsmith (1974)
Verdigris Deep, Frances Hardinge (2007)
The Beekeeper's Apprentice, Laurie L. King (1994)

Films watched (39-43)

Solaris (rewatch, Clooney version)
Woyzeck
Fitzcarraldo
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Layer Cake

That's four detectivey books. The last is a cracking read, Mary Russell meets Sherlock Holmes. Video watching was heavy on the Herzog/Kinski box set! Scott Pilgrim was very funny, and directed by the same person who did Spaced which I didn't pick up on till later. It shows through the thick layering of videogame/comic/anime references throughout, many of which I expect I didn't get.

We have the same Herzog boxset to get through.

Still stuck at Nosferatu.

Hmm, are you following the reading lists of my mostly-fantasy-book group? We read the Hardinge earlier, and Cycler's coming up. I've only read the sequel, (re)Cycler, which I suspect will be more satisfying (I know enough about the first book to know that treatment of a character will piss me off, as it's supposed to).

Maybe I should! Any recommendations? Not that I don't have more than plenty of unread books on the shelves already...

Cycler, yes, there is a bit where they do that thing and she's alright with it and it's really not alright. But I guess we can talk about that in Book Club if it gets chosen.

I'd send you email but I still have the old .cix address (or the TAFF one). Will figure it out & resend.
