I used to work in a used bookstore that accepted (and sold) old textbooks. This meant that we took in more than most places, and I have a good idea of what's really unsaleable (or not). So yes, I have thrown out books (it took some mental effort, but I did it), but it's because I knew what I was doing. For some books, it's really the only thing you can do.
