101.10. Throw a party

Done. It was Twelfth Night, or possibly thirteenth. We had wondered when was the right time to take the Christmas cards down, but were gazumped by the cleaner and I came home to shelves of paper robots instead. Now for the washing up... Very little in the way of leftovers (expect pineapple and melon), and I had a couple of things with a trace of excluded lemon juice and vinegar.

Treated myself to a slow cooker, given that I'm very partial to stew, and look forward to trying it out.

My next job for the day is checking out Flash the hamster - she looks fine but I noticed blood spots on her food bowl and wheel yesterday (after I'd been drinking too much to fish her out to investigate). It was hopefully just a scratch.

I *love* my slow cooker.

I find slow cookers great for soups & stews (&/or the stock base for them). With a few caveats: Many things taste best if the meat is first seared (I favor a cast-iron kettle for this, & maybe to carmelize some onions before adding water for the stock, ). When making An Abundance (I tend to use the larger-size slow-cooker/crockpot, on the "as long as I'm going to do a batch, it might as well be a big one" theory) it's a good idea to chill, then freeze, the surplus right away. (I have a Black Belt in Procrastination-fu, okay?)

Oh, I hope Flash is ok!

..and a good party it was too, so thanks. I think dorispossum made a fine absolute monarch - monarchic, but not too monarchic, if you know what I mean.

it was a fab party - hope we didn't leave too much mess(!) And the queen was v well fed - consort v jealous of the mini eggs. To paraphrase Mel Brooks, it's good to be the Queen. Even for an evening.

Hurrah, I actually made it to a party!
