Google thinks I am an 18-24 year old male, with an interest in SF movies, puzzles, and shopping.

(Article on Google Ad Preferences and inferred interests and demographics, via [livejournal.com profile] dalmeny)

As an aside, I could make Google cookies, iced with demographics and interests, and note which ones people choose so that in future I could provide them with better targetted cookies.

Google also thinks I'm an 18-24yrold male. Who likes:

Arts & Entertainment - Movies
Arts & Entertainment - Movies - Thriller, Crime & Mystery Films
Arts & Entertainment - Music & Audio - Classical Music

Classical music! Such a young man's fancy!

Also, fascinatingly, Other Me has no demographic whatsoever. Probably safer that way :)

Google thinks I am 35-44, male and interested in Weather.

I don't know how it got that, because I'm usually the only person in a group who hasn't looked at weather reports. Though I suppose I do look up what the weather will be where I'm going on holiday.

Maybe it has "weather" for everyone in the UK? :)

Hm. 25-35, interested in programming, board games, roleplaying games and computer games. That's not bad...

Oh, interesting comparison! I use two web browsers, one for most things (checked in previous comment), the other for mostly for teaching. (I have to be online to teach, so sometime it's easier to be able to close everything else to avoid the distraction.) The teaching browser is where I've been doing a fair number of pregnancy-related web searches lately. But! Nothing related to that shows up as an interest of mine, which is either odd, or really, really good of Google. On the other hand, it does seem to think I'm interested in "World Localities - Asia - South Asia - Pakistan" on that browser which I really cannot account for.

Google has no demographic or interest categories for me. Phew.

I too am 18-24 with interests in punk, amusing cats, cricket and urban planning.

Either they're not very good at this or that's a lot of foam rubber you've been carrying around under your sweaters....

"No interest or demographic categories are associated with your ads preferences so far. You can add or edit interests and demographics at any time."

I could say this is cos I teach privacy law. But actually I choose not to delete my Google cookie cos I like the results. It is in fact prob because the OS on this netbook was nuked a few weeks ago. I *am* tempted to go add interests and see what happens

(this btw is what they call a transparent desktop and is in fact a good thing. The bad thing is invisible data collection and profiling which Google of course also do..)
