Hello, AKICILJ -

[livejournal.com profile] flyingsauce is laying out a publication for Concussion; a 52pp A5 booklet, in Freehand. When he prints from Freehand to PDF the file size is bloomin' enormous (16MB), despite it being mainly text.

a) Any suggestions for ways to reduce filesize?

b) Instead of e-mailing such a large file, he'd like to upload it to some webspace and then I could download it. Where might one get hold of such webspace at short notice and with little technological knowhow? This might not be a big problem, I expect my e-mail will handle the file.

Ta!

You can split hugefile into hugefile.001, hugefile.002 etc, with sizes that you can specify. Google for "download chunkjoiner" if you have a Mac, and "download hjsplit" if you have a Windows machine.

PDFShrink should do the trick (on [livejournal.com profile] flyingsauce's Mac). It's not free, but you can get a ten-day fully functiomal demo version.

Thanks. I've also now figured a way of cutting it drastically by using FreeHand's 'Export as PDF' rather than 'Print as PDF', and fiddling with the defaults. The difference will be at least a whopping 12 Mb less.
