If you get to the shop which sells Diet Vanilla Coke just as it closes, and go somewhere else to get Diet Coke-flavoured Coke instead (or should that be Diet Diet-Coke flavoured Coke?), and get a bottle of mead and pour the two together, it is very nice. If a vodka and Coke is a Black Russian, would this be a Black Celt? And would a mead with blue Curaçao be a Celt in Woad?
I have been working long and hard on the Concussion ReadMe, finally getting it to the printer this arvo, and felt I should instead work on trying to MeadMe this evening. This is much easier, and I can multi-task by watching no-brain TV and feeding con badges through the laminator. I am disappointed that my Word Fu was not strong enough for the ReadMe job; I had to sully my technique by adding Adobe Fu and printer Fu.
Simon and I had each been producing part of an A5 booklet and it came to me to join the two together and make a nice clean pdf. We had each been approaching the booklet from a different perspective though, and trying to mix pages of A5 with half-A4, landscape with portrait, maintain the footers with page numbers and tweak it to 28pp instead of an irritating 29.5, well - I just couldn't do it. Our section breaks kept conflicting, so I would delete a seemingly innocuous line and lo! the document would spring apart into columns, like doubled pairs of chromosomes in mitosis. This gets annoying after a while. Then there was the way I edited my part to fit well on a page, but some pasted-in text from Simon saw fit to change my margins. I had re-edited it before I realised. Then found I would have to edit it back. Pah! I got part way using PDF conversion but in the end I was reduced to printing it out. On paper. That still required setting up to print each A5 page separately, manually setting the printer to scale by 134%. But the printer was happy in the end and we will have a ReadMe and no one will have to get nailed to a tree.
Tomorrow we have dinner with friends of Si's from Uni, who are looking after the hamster while we're in Glasgow.
