cough

I remember now, last time I had a cough that went on for ages they said it wasn't unusual (just unpleasant) for a cough to last 6 weeks and I had to wait it out. Same this time. I should be glad I'm not prone to chest infections. The earache is less but the hearing is still poor, I'm unwittingly doing rude things like talking over other people as I can't hear that they're saying anything (sorry!), I need to start looking round the group before I speak. Inhalations over a steam bath should allegedly help. Excuse me while I go boil my head at you. And July! Why get a cold in July??

Also, looking forward to getting back to exercise without feeling wobbly or falling over coughing.

I do that all the time as my hearing is quite bad on one side. I just straight out say at the start of meetings (be they formal ones or a gathering of friends) that my hearing is rubbish at the moment, so if I talk over someone, tell me to shut up! that tactic works especially if you find a humourous way of doing it.

People talking while covering their mouth drives me up the wall. Or last week in a hospital someone said something to me and then marched down a corridor (as I followed), talking all the way. I had to stop and say "I can't hear if you don't look at me, or if you are talking while walking away".

And at a private view a friend who KNOWS about my hearing issues tried to talk to me with her mouth full. This is gross anyway (IMO) but I had to say "please, I can wait until you've finished. I can't lip read you if you talk while you're eating". Same with hearing someone who is talking with mouth full, actually! Just chew, swallow, then talk! Gah!

Anyway, what I meant to say was that I really do share your frustration.

The nurse did that a bit, started talking to my face then got up and paced the room, but said "Whoops! Of course" when I reminded her I was here about my hearing and I couldn't hear her properly like that :-) Easy to forget, I am learning now how annoying it is for those affected.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm still coughing quite a bit which I think is tail-end of cold and can't be blamed on hayfever. Though I actually went to the gym on Monday...

Brian and I are both suffering sore throat and cough - despite twice-a-day antihistamines. So we sympathise. Take care.

Is it July? I thought the needle had got stuck on April and is endlessly looping the track. Someone needs to give it a gentle tap to get it going again.
