I'm going to Whittlesford for an IT certification test thing. The test centre is so close to the station that they give directions "black door on left next to railway platform". If you want to drive, they recommend parking in the train station carpark.

And yet - I am not to bring any books or papers to the test centre. I may bring a small bag no more than 12"x12"x12". There is no room for large coats. Presumably I'm supposed to leave all my things in my car, or not plan on going anywhere else directly afterwards like back to work.

Can you fit the coat on the back of your chair? I guess the station is too small to offer left luggage. In which case how annoying!

I'm sure I'll find a way to cope. It's just annoying. I hope they're not that fierce about "no books or papers", I wouldn't want to go that long without a book! Especially while waiting for the half-hourly train home.

Wear a big hat and tuck it all under that?

Seriously, I can understand they dont want papers or books so you cant cheat, but yeah, Id want to take something to read too!

Have you got a kindle? Either real or the app on your phone? That's how I read books nowadays and theres lots of free stuff out there... Might that carry you through?

Grr, that's like cinemas and theatres which ask you to limit bringing bags, coats, etc.

I am unavoidably reminded of the obstetrician who said "You can leave the rest of your stuff in the car and Dad can go get it when you are back on the ward."

Bring a "small" bag which is genuinely a cubic foot, put coat in that. :-)
