Holidays

I have a week off work from May 22-26 (it's the week between lectures ending and exams beginning) - does anyone fancy a daytime visit/excursion? I'm happy to come down to London, or across to Peterborough, or any direction available by straightforward public transport.

I presume Dorset is too far?

Hmmm - only 4 hours from Cambridge to Poole by train... not impossible, unless it's another 4 hours from $Dorsetmainlinestation to HouseOfVoleQueen.

It's a half hour bus journey from Poole (sometimes slightly longer depending on which route it takes).

You'd be welcome to stop overnight if you liked.

It's tempting - but train then bus does tend to screw up my back, so I'm a bit wary of that. It would be a useful data point though. Overnight would be sensible, but does seem silly to spend a night away from MC when I may be off for six weeks with TAFF then he's off for 4 months with work... but visiting would be good.

Off to work now.

If I've got the car, I'd be able to pick you up from the station. It's just that I can't predict more than a week in advance what days Richard is working.

If you can check days about a week beforehand, then we might be able to find one with car availabliity. (Mondays and Tuesdays are statistically the most likely)

I'd really love to see you.

This is looking doable! My mother is visiting on the Monday, my first preference would be be staying over Wednesday night, my second preference the Tuesday night (missing Tai Chi). Poole is the closest station to you?

Tues would be my preference. I've one pupil on Tuesday (3.30 - 4.30) and two on Wednesday (4.00-6.30). I can't easily cancel lessons as it's exam time of year and hence not fair on the pupils, so Tuesday means I only have to ask you to go and read a book for an hour.

Asking you to vanish for over 2 hours would seem really mean. (If you don't mind missing two hours, then I've no preference, but I'd like to see as much of you as possible while you're here)

Poole is the closest station. I could take a bus in and meet you at the station if it turns out to be a carless day. Much easier than you trying to navigate buses in a strange town.

I'm going to Dorset on the 26th (an organic farm near lyme regis) with N & S ... but as long as I've finished my project report by then, I would definitely be up for a trip earlier in the week?

Could be fun. If you're able to come by, then go for it.

The only generic warning is that I'm busy between 4 and 6.30 on some weekdays depending on how many pupils I have. visitors have to accept being abandoned for an hour or two during that period. (I can't cancel lessons when we're this close to the exams)

Tobes is in Jersey and I'm going to visit my mum before joining him, unfortunately.
