You're doing the right thing ... don't disturb it. It'll trundle away in the spring, and you won't have any slugs in your garden in the summer.

This situation shows exactly why it's really not a good idea to use a fork to gather up garden rubbish at this time of year.

Of course, for maximal effect, don't throw away leaves anyway, but make a cage out of chicken wire, through leaves into it, let it rot down into leaf mould, and when you don't have a clue what to do with it, let me come up and take it away if you're still there in a year!
