Cambridge Newszine

It occurs to me that it would be fun to have a monthly fannish/funnish newsletter, to hand out at pub meetings and fan gatherings. Probably similar in size to Ansible, but with fewer words and more pictures!

Anyone interested in:
a) reading it
b) contributing news/snippets/reports
c) contributing art/photos
d) distributing
e) editing/occasional guest-editing
f) providing web space
g) thinking up a name? The best idea I've had so far is Fensible, but there must be dozens of better ideas than that...

Oh? Does the news have to be real?

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it ought to be unnervingly convincing...

[identity profile] numbat.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not unlike my parody of Ansible then?

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think my imagination stretches that far...

(It does, actually, but I'm saving that for the TAFF report)

I think fensible is wonderful!

Esp as the most legendary Camb convention was fencon..

IndeFenSible???

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
My fanhistory is failing me; I've never heard of Fencon.

If a thing is not defensible, is it fensible?

(If we do go to Edinburgh for a year, I could start up Glensible)

This reminds me of the classic Kliban picture of a fent.

[Google Google] Oh yes! I must have seen that before, somewhere.

Sounds good!

"It is. Are you?"

[ObCulturalReference: Tag line for UK broadsheet The Independent]

I'd read it!

Possible names ... Gone Puntin', Burning Bright, Yalla Ballies?

[identity profile] johncoxon.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd read it - and as for a name, I pick "Fan Shui" - the fannish approach to happiness in life. Yes, I know how bad that is. Do forgive me!

I guess it would be pronounced "Fan Shway", which is the motion of someone walking home from the pub ;-)

[identity profile] voidampersand.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe Fen Shoes.

[identity profile] purplecthulhu.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd read it!

And in the tradition of Small Mammal and Intermediate Reptile and with the boggy environment, maybe it should be called Huge Mollusc?

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Or it could be like Gerald and The Mongolian Jird and I could call it Gerbil. That wouldn't confuse anybody.

Moog?

Giant Squid! Giant Squid!

Hello, Margaret

Silly name contribution:
Cambridge Panda News (incorporating Fen Fen Magazine)

(Anonymous) 2006-06-05 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'd read it, providing it has an RSS (monthly things have a habit of flaling off the mental stack).

The only name I can think of is something along the lines of ConFENtional Wisdom, but it's an awful pun, and not really as good as Indie Fensible.

Bugger, hadn't noticed I wasn't logged in.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
I am increasingly keen on Giant Squid...

[identity profile] ex-lark-asc.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Lacking absolutely in fan-culture I'm loath to bounce about and go "Ooh I'll contribute", but I'm happy to offer editing-fu. I may also be able to scare you up some webspace...

[writes name on list] Thanks!
