When I got cats I had the bright idea if getting big litter trays for them, so they'd be good and roomy and not such a problem if I got sick and didn't empty them as frequently. But they and their contents were so heavy that maintaining them was a soul-crushing chore; just picking them up and shaking them, or manoeuvring them into a bag for disposal, or bending into the niches of a room to fetch them out.

After a few years the penny finally dropped and I got little trays I could pick up easily. If the cats needed their space I could get more, and even if I put them side-by-side they only took up the space of one old giant (A3 instead of A2, as it were). And there were more places to put them where they wouldn't be in the way.
