Stuff and Things and Admin

[Poll #1985602]

Whoever guesses closest wins my old copy of Getting Things Done as I won't need it any more :-)

You'll have noticed that I didn't specify the year of the Mercer's Day I expect you to achieve that goal.

Also darn, now I need to add "look up when Mercer's Day is" to the list.

Oops! I thought you'd know. This Younger Generation... *sigh*. As I recall (it was probably a few years before I got into fandom... the mid 1950s, perhaps) U.K. fan Archie Mercer announced the deadline for an OMPA officers election as 31 April. the APA president, Walter Willis, announce that since he was allowed to settle all problems that arose (& not just those involving the Organization) he thereby declared 31 April to be Mercer's Day, to be followed immediately by May 2nd. Actually, what I was implying was that you'd get things all ship-shape on the (non-existent) May First. Some May First, that is.

Mind you, I've been reducing the height of the piles of Stuph (which fill all but a few isles in my suburban California house) by about foot per year, for the past two years. I calculate that, with luck, the Problem will be resolved in about six years, by which time I'd be 93 years old. Somehow, I do not find this particularly reassuring... mostly because I'm not a strong believer in Luck (except when I go into a used-book store).

And yes, I suppose your List involves many other Activities. Mine includes only a few, and I'm planning to get at them Real Soon Now, if the 4-month Hot Spell turns out to be genuinely over.

"everything" sorted? How is that humanly possible?

Based on my previous experience of getting _somewhat_ more organised, I don't think, even if become an organised person, I'll have (or want) an _empty_ todo list, rather, a well-organised todo list with no firefighting on it...

I would like my To Do list to have more space for creative hobbies and relaxation, less "sort out insurance", and I would like to be able to easily lay hands on the creative hobby stuff and have space to practice it! Instead I look for camera charger and stumble across papers and get stressed because I was supposed to scan them and give my boss copies back in May...

The downside of sorting before hobbies is you spend long weekends sorting and don't do your hobbies.
