At the [livejournal.com profile] recombination committee meeting last night, we got to talking about Venture Capitalists (who might like to fund the production of NetHack t-shirts), and then we wondered how a Venture Communist might act?

I am a bit disappointed to Google and find that Venture Communism already exists, but I don't care for their manifesto. A commune of workers pledge labour only (no cash, property etc) into a pot, which is somehow turned into a monetary equivalent, which can be invested for profit.

I prefer the idea of using money not to get a cash return on investment, but to invest in projects which benefit society/the community. That would be more fun.

That's very interesting. Have you had any dealings with them, or did you just google?

I've got some money ($150 if memory serves) invested with them at the moment; four lots of $25 to business owners in Ecuador and $50 to a lady in Uganda who runs a bookshop -- so, no prizes for guessing why she got the investment, then ;)

Also, you might find www.zopa.com of some interest, though it's less specifically socially targeted.
