Time Team: The Mystery of the Standing Stone

Time Team made a discovery! It was very cool! Enjoyed that episode.

Other
The Choir of Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, St. Mary's Church, Saffron Walden
A free concert; a programme of pieces from 1600's to 1900s, then Fauré's Requiem. Lovely having voices fill the space; Toby went off down an organ rabbit hole and his fascination with the music of distortion.
In music of purity corner, I wonder (perhaps you could answer if you're in a choir) if people use a different voice for solos? Or the same singing voice throughout (adapting for the tone of the piece) and the difference in sound with multiple singers just comes from the number of voices, or whether there's a modulation of tone to better merge the voices.

I've just been watching Jour de Fete. Recorded it over Xmas. I had mixed feelings about it. Love the period detail, but slapstick isn't really my thing, even though Tati is a master of it.

People singing in a choir will usually try and blend their voices so no-one stands out; if you're doing a solo, then you do want to stand out somewhat, so might well sing a bit differently (more vibrato is quite common).

Even if there is no conscious effort on differentiating choral singing with solo singing (which as another person has replied is likely/common) I suspect subconsciously the tug-of-war effect (aka Ringlemann Effect) would likely kick in and less effort would be made by the individual singers.

I haven't done any solo singing but when I give presentations I consciously try to project to the back of the room using my head bones for resonance. When I sing in a choir it's much more a chest voice, coming from the lungs.
