Fireworks display on Midsummer Common on Saturday. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] alexmc. I've been living here for three years. How come the first time I've heard of this is from someone in Leytonstone??

Leytonstone, surely?

I said Leytonstone... Okay, I didn't, but I've corrected it now. My geography is a bit hazy in that area.

I dunno. We probably all expected you knew.

It can be very pretty - especially if you happen to know someone with one of the houses that looks out over it. One of [livejournal.com profile] bellinghwoman's ex-colleagues was living in one of the cottages on the walk leading from Maid's Causeway onto the common, and he used to throw a party, with guests trooping out to the front door for the display itself.

Bear in mind, there will be big crowds.

I guess Novacon has often happened at the same time.

The Council's web site is very clear on the subject of crowds. It is really quite helpful, in that respect.

Last New Year's Eve we all stood on [livejournal.com profile] frandowdsofa's doorstep to look across at the fireworks over Sheffield at midnight. A very good way to see the display, with warm indoors-type places and vodka within easy reach.

My father's house in London was great for this - on the side of a hill, with a third floor balcony and views across to Paddington. Some spectacular displays (also very good for viewing thunderstorms). Cambridge is a little flat for this.

Oh, phooey. I'll be in Cambridge Thursday/Friday, gone by Saturday. Sigh. I always leave the fireworks behind me.

Hmm - thoughts for an epitaph? "He Always Left the Fireworks Behind Him"...?

I'll probably see you on Thursday at Heffer's.

My epitaph would be "It should be me up there!" (am bit of stage queen)
