Walking home, I saw a lady looking cold, a bicyle attached to a railing, and a man with a hacksaw making a racket as he tried to cut through the cycle lock. He hadn't got very far, through the plastic coating but that's about it. A police car drove past, and a copper yelled out "Bit conspicuous, aren't you, mate?"

In other news (because there is always other news, and I am not mistress of the elegant segue, though I wouldn't mind being mistress of the elegant Segway), it's too darn cold and I'm putting the heating on. I might cheat tomorrow and go work in the library. I wonder how busy it is on weekends? And I wonder how many of the journal URLs I saved will give me access from outside the University?

You aren't kidding about the cold, I've got my thick jumper on, and I've switched on the heating.

Part of me knows it's not really that cold, and that it's just a drop from the unusually warm temperatures we've had recently, but that part can bugger off as far as I'm concerned.

It's uncomfortably cold now for typing. I'd much rather be in a nice snug curry house. Or I could take up winter evening hobbies which involve immersion of my hands in warm water, like, er, the washing up... What fun.

Silly people. Everyone knows that you need bolt cutters to get through cycle locks.
