make muscles loose and soft and sleepy = less cross-talking nerves = comfort
(no subject)
I've Googled a bit, and there's
* exertion causes muscles to get microtears and scar tissue. Stretching reduces adhesions and assists muscle fibres to align.
* stretching improves circulation, of nutrients and oxygen to the muscle cells and of toxins and lactic acid from the cells. When tense, the circulation is squeezed out of the muscle, so it sits around in a little pool of waste products.
* muscles release endorphins when stretched.
I could go with these - the feeling is sufficiently like when you pick a scab (I guess that releases endorphins?) or let the blood rush to your head.
