Urbis
Originally uploaded by bugshaw

The city has changed a lot since I was last there, especially since the Arndale bombing. I'd turn a corner and get my bearings, then turn another and be faced with completely new buildings. Favourite new piece: the Tree of Remembrance.

EDIT: Wakes, bleary-eyed. "You were up late," says [livejournal.com profile] major_clanger. "I was resizing my pictures to go into Flickr," says I, "and it took ages.". Apparently if you just drop the photos into the uploader tool it offers to resize them for you. Doh!

Am re-reading Pollen - the Vurt world invading the real. I think that the Urbis would fit right in to Noon's Vurtchester universe :-)

Oh yes, a lot of the architecture is like that.

London is, too: you can stand on the bank of the Thames and see the Tower of London and the Gherkin in the same small arc :-)

City-scapes are magical - Especially roof-scapes. History mingling with modernity.
Standing beneath the London Eye at twilight, gazing into its illuminated geometry - a real object or some gigantic CAD simulation?
