Le Weekend

Good bits included:
* BSFA/SFF AGM left me enthusiastic about fandom
* Finished China Miéville's Looking for Jake including the rather disturbing scene of vampires wandering around the street where I used to do a paper round when I was a kid!
* Finally watched some MST3K which people have been telling me is essential Bridgetty viewing since 1993 - they were not wrong!
* Visited Mum at her house for the first time in yeeeears; left with rhubarb and a Crown Derby hamster paperweight (v sweet, it shall live on my Post-Its)
* Did All Laundry
* Baked chocolate brownies (non-dairy) which I hope will last me a week of packed lunches elevenses :-) The new brownie pan works much better than the old roasting tin.

Bad bits included:
* errrr.... ummmm..... scratches head.... the train got very crowded until Wembley then I had the carriage to myself? That's not very bad...
* [livejournal.com profile] major_clanger handed me a few pieces of forwarded post, which means an awful lot has gone missing in the last few months. Need to start tracking stuff down.
* So, not so bad :-)

Next weekend is purposeful clothes shopping, picnic/party, potentially a board games evening with N and R and their friend, hopefully a good bicycle ride.

Sorry, I somehow didn't spot you at the AGM, or I would have said "Hi!"

You might have heard me shuffle in late during Geoff Ryman's talk/reading, for which apologies :-(

Sorry I couldnt stay longer.

I also had the experience of standing right next to hawkida and high heeled fish lifter and not being able to hear a whole sentence that either of them said. Ooops!

Didn't we lend you Manos and Space Mutiny a while back?

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but I couldn't get them to play on my computer. Since then I have failed to play quite ordinary shop DVDs on my computer, even though people have tutted and said I'm missing codecs or something, and tried to download software.

:-(

I realise this may have been tried, but have you tried VLC?

Failing that, persuade [livejournal.com profile] ceb that when I move I want to have another lousy movies all-nighter.

I don't know if VLC has been tried, I'll give it a go this evening or Tuesday. I admit to being a bit out of my depth here.

VLC normally works and it normally just works. It's well worth a try.

W00t! Am watching a DVD now :-) Thank you v. much.

The only subtlety is the Video->Deinterlace option, which you will want if you get hideous deinterlacing artifacts.

"another"

We should have *a* MST3K all-nighter.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You're persuaded already? Gosh, that was quick :-)

I could bring brownies.

All together now: omnomnomnomnomnom....

The last one failed on the all-night-ness rather.

PS *an* not *a*. I stand corrected.
