Anyone know how to tune a viola?

Throw it at the wall until it stops crunching.

All of a sudden, the hundreds of viola jokes come back to me. *shudder*

101 A day without lists !

... ducks !

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I like my lists!

Okay, what should I do with the ducks? :-)

[identity profile] ms-cataclysm.livejournal.com 2009-11-01 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
If you do a day without lists, I'll do a day without books.

Viola tuning

[identity profile] fivemack.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I can lend you an electronic tuning widget, but I presume there's something more subtle to it than playing each string carefully and turning the knobs at the top until the tuning widget says 'A' and its in-tune light goes green.

Re: Viola tuning

Perhaps that would help - I'll use [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth's link first and see if I can get it tuned that way or if I have a tin ear and need a machine to help :-(

Hm fine dining. Are you game for a trip some time?

[identity profile] tamaranth.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Theatre!
Learn to cook a new thing
... this notion, the 101 things list, strangely tempts me: I may try to organise my own vague to-do plans into something similar.

Try a new kind of chocolate?

Also, I'm just wondering about some of those numbers. Is that 14.5 hours for art and viola an hour a week? Also, it's your project, but five pints of water a day is a lot: have you found that useful in the past? The idea that everyone should drink 8 cups her day--the usual U.S. version, and significantly less than what you have there--seems to have morphed from a misreading of the total water intake most people need, including what they get from salad, melon, juice, etc., possibly including tea. I know people vary, and if that is the amount that works for you, go for it, but I like water and it would feel like a burden for me, especially phrased as something to be done every day for 14.5 weeks.

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, an hour a week. I'm not planning on doing some extreme viola marathon!

I usually manage 5-7 pints of water a day, and feel much better when I hit the five. I suspect part of this is an encouragement to myself to choose water as the default rather than Diet Coke; I can easily manage 4 pints of Coke a day, at the expense of water, but it doesn't leave me feeling healthy.

New chocolate, eh? I shall have to go exploring...

Good luck with the 69!

For board games, I'll happily play Tobago or Dungeon Lords with you, although I have copies of neither. But I have copies of Bunny Bunny Moose Moose and Hard Furry Pets.

subscirbe!

Arts cinema film quiz!

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, is that tonight? The web site says both "first Monday" and "November 5th"... I'd be up for that :-)

[identity profile] sphyg.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh, it's November already isn't it? I was thinking the quiz was next Monday. I don't think I'm organised enough to do it tonight. How about the December one?

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2009-11-02 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
December would be good, especially as I got back from the chiropractor and fell soundly asleep today...

[identity profile] bugshaw.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!

[identity profile] mgspiller.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure I'm one of many that can help with portal. Do you want help yet? Where are you stuck?

[identity profile] damerell.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Admit I was wondering the same thing.

[identity profile] leeky.livejournal.com 2010-02-02 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the same thing.

"The snake is a pie!"
"The lake is a tie!"

See? I remember it all.
