Strange foods

My mum came to visit today - earlier she'd sent me a link to a recipe for Ziploc omelettes, you chuck some eggs and herbs and stuff in a ziploc bag and boil it. It worked pretty well! Then, when searching for a link, I found several articles where Ziploc recommend against boiling their bags as they're not designed for that purpose and could get a bit melty and not reliably foodsafe. Boo.

101 Things: talking to 14 family members. Partly what drove that wish was the realisation that so often we only speak at funerals, and it would be nice to catch up at other times. I think it - I type it - then my greatuncle dies. I don't think I'll be able to get to Totnes for the funeral :-(

That's a really interesting idea. Could you use one of those sandwich toasting bags and suspend it over the pan via a chopstick in the 'handle' holes to prevent it from slipping into the water?

I know not of these sandwich toasting bags, but I do have roasting bags. And I'm sure we used to boil eggs in paper bags in the Guides!

Sister (today I got a temporary address for her - we've not spoken in 5? 7? years)

11 cousins (plus 8 partners plus 12 children) and I'm on good speaking terms with all of them, we just only ever meet at weddings and funerals.

I just haven't got that much family any more really. There used to be millions of great aunts and second cousins once, but the former seem to have all died and the latter emigrated! I only really know about my own siblings and their kids (& i new grand kid!), and my mum's sister and her 2 kids & 1 grand kid (my uncle just died) (& my dad is only child). All the grand parents dead too. is rather dull.. the ones I have (the 13 or so) i see a fair bit so no big reunions to plan either.

Technically I have six uncles, seven counting the one who's my mum's cousin but is closer to her than two of her brothers, but my family is really not what you call close. Before you get into the whole I'm not allowed at family events because I'm embarrassingly weird factor. Effectively, there's my parents, my brother, and his wife. There was one cousin I was close to as a child who I'm now sorta in touch with through Facebook, but that's it.

As I may have mentioned, when Tony and I were wedding-list-ing, "immediate family and bridesmaids etc" came to about 50 people.

I have 25 "close family" relations:
2 parents
2 step-parents
3 siblings, 1 partner
4 step-siblings
1 step-niece
3 aunts on my dad's side, 1 partner, 1 spouse, 1 first cousin
1 aunt on my mum's side, 1 spouse, 2 first cousins, 1 with fiance
1 second cousin once removed who is particularly close to my dad and his sisters.


Tony has similar numbers of close relations.
