Add MemoryShare This Entry

It's Mothering Sunday on March 14th (in the UK) and I'd like to scan a load of the family photos I've got from the loft and put them on a memory stick for my Mum.

I can do a few HTML pages, a list of the photos with links, and a few album-style pages showing thematic groups of photos.

What I would like to have is a way she can view groups of photos in categories of her choosing, e.g. by a person's name. Is there a fairly simple way I can do this, or an existing app? She's Windows and on dial-up. If it's a slightly more complicated way, I could maybe do a release 2.0 for her birthday in June :-)

So - app? Database? Tags? Hand-built folders of shortcuts to images? Give each photograph a really descriptive filename? A simple HTML document with a lot of Next/Back buttons?

Cheers!

Can that be run offline? I've only seen people's web albums (unless I've got confused)

It'll let you do all sorts of things, including making html pages, collages and gift CDs, but the package itself runs offline.

Flickr - or some PHP/MySQL application like Gallery 2.

A scanner with a sheet feeder *might* work for photos.

I appreciate that you said Windows and dial-up - but basically you need a decent connection to upload loads of photos anywhere.

Not being a Windows person myself I didn't think of Picassa - but it might work well as the previous commenter said.

I'll be scanning the photos and putting them on a memory stick for her, so no need for internet transmission :-) She can then move them onto her laptop if she wants. What I'm after here is possible ways to arrange/view them than just as folders.

Ah, then the first suggestion you received is probably best. Picassa I think does what you need.
