I shall see how Flash copes with being an Only Hamster. I was in the room with the dwarf hamsters, heard a single affronted squeak, and when I checked up on them an hour later Dasher had died. She had been the nervous one, quick to get stressed when handled, I assume it was something quick. Roborovskis are usually very sociable, I'm not sure what to do when one is bereaved at - what - 6-9 months? They can live to 4 years.

Also, the "no cheese please" pizza yesterday arrived with cheese on, and I ate it (om nom nom!), and my joints have been steadily more painful till I'm in a 'can't walk 200m' state. Humph. Guess I still can't eat cheese! Walked 7 miles on Friday, for comparison.

Oh, I'm so sorry about Dasher!

Also, shame on pizza for smuggling cheese into you. Even if you ate it wide-eyed and knowingly.

I'm sorry to hear about Dasher. I hope Flash is ok, will you get a companion for him?

Bad pizza - I hate it when people don't listen to requests. Amazed how far you walked on Friday - is there any chance that it would have made you sore today as a result anyway (and the cheese has just made it worse)?

7 miles is not unusual for me (it was in two batches). I'm more inclined to the cheese theory as it's painful in the back, both knees, ankles, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck... It's quite fun spotting the pattern, when one is sufficiently distanced from it :-)

Flash seems fine but I'll keep an eye on her for the next few days. I like [livejournal.com profile] inulro's suggestion of MOAR TOYS.

Sorry to hear about the hamster. My Robbos had to be separated because they started fighting and all seemed to be fine on their own - lots of toys to keep them busy is probably the answer.

Thanks. I can hear Flash on the wheel, she's obviously not bored with it yet!

It's probably the cheese. I have similar problems with sugar and sugar products. I might get away with a single piece of carrot cake if it's one I've made myself, but more than that, I can count on gradual stiffening of my shoulder and elbow joints. I can take a week for the toxins to clear. Still we keep hoping, don't we? Maybe this time it will be different. Hope you feel better soon and I'm so sorry about Dasher.

RIP Dasher. Sorry about the cheese.

I seem to recall another pizza experiment a few months ago which didn't have such a painful outcome. There will be many factors afoot.

Sounds like you're having a good holiday anyway.

Sorry about Dasher. It there a hamster rescue that would let you foster potential new friends for keeping if Flash gets on with them? Probably best to leave her on her own for a bit anyway--maybe she'll love it!

Wicked, bad, pizza people! If they do it again, call the Pizza Eating Emergency Monkeys, who will eat your pizza and replace it with a cheeseless one. (Subject to crapness of pizza people, fullness of monkey tums, etc. etc, Monkey appetites may go down as well as up.)

If hamsters need rescuing, I suspect I will volunteer!

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Dasher.
And about the joint pain. Do take care. I shall hopefully see you this week, while Chaz is here.

I suspect she is dashing merrily on the Great Wheel in the Sky.

It would be lovely to see you - I shall email with availability :-)

Sorry to hear about that. You think you'll get used to it given their relatively short lives but it's always sad - I remember how distressing it was with the last litter from Ben and Geri. But they still seem to have lots of fun and bring pleasure into their owners' lives (not to mention providing The Small Rodent Channel for Ozy).

Awww... sad news indeed.

Her dashing on that Great Wheel in the Sky could explain why the stars seemed extra bright tonight - hamster power!

So sorry about Dasher.

As for Flash. I'm beginning to think that the "sociable" tag for creatures can be quite flexible. Miss Daisy, the hen, was an only girl for several months and regarded me as sufficiently galliform to be reasonably happy. The various fish we've bought that live in groups seem quite happy to find another species to shoal with if they become singletons. Tyos, stimulation, company might do the trick.
